Finally got a chance to serve the poor, hungry, naked, needy… Ones less fortunate for various circumstances. Serving food, being a runner, talking to people, brought back lota memories from my college years serving at the center in riverside.
Serving & loving on these people reminds me of how our worship isn’t just about singing…getting the awesome surge of emotions & feelings, but true worship demands justice. If our lives are changed then we should carry out the compassion of our Father.
I noticed one man yesterday…we’ll just say his name is “Hayzeus”. He was a young asian man, probably had the same build as our friend Dpeng. Similar style of clothing, had a cracked skateboard and a backpack. I was thinking, why is this man here? Young, strong looking guy. I wonder what’s his story? How did he get on the streets?
The asian-ness of it all hit me. Asian parents wouldn’t let their kids be like that!..Maybe he has no parents, or he ran away, couldn’t get along with them, strict, abusive, maybe a broken home, fell into the wrong crowd, drug abuse? etc… I don’t know what the situation is cause he wouldn’t open up to me…but we all know people who have a combination of these situations…its just for us, sometimes not all of them collide together at once, and we can bounce back from this…but for others, all the hardships hit at once and it seems impossible to get out of this…
Made me realize a couple things:
There were some other ppl that popped out at me. Funny asian guy walking around in-doors with a helmet, in-love couple, guy named “shortie”, Wheel-chair lady, and a few others…
I look at them, and I think … why are they on the streets? Doesn’t anyone love them? When theres people in the church going through hard times, they have the company of their fellow believers in Christ to support them…financially…through prayer…through food…through transportation…through babysitting..etc… Just being in a church there is immense love. We just sometimes take it for granted.
I was looking through old photos to update our church website…
And as I was making it..things that make me laugh and smile
Awesome day. Belinda has been telling me to shave my chinstrap…
Well I shaved my face so it’s nice and clean, she didn’t notice! :) So that means with or without a beard…Belinda doesn’t mind.
Similar thing happened. When I came back from Kyrgyzstan 30lbs lighter, Belinda didn’t notice.
Lesson to be Learned, Justin: You can grow a beard and gain 30 more lbs and Belinda will have no idea :)
Jesus washed his feet. Did you know that? … He washed his dirty, sandy, poop-caked, smelly feet. Even though he knew he would betray him.
Gift vs Character is a life long lesson
Something I heard on the radio today that surprised me…(kinda)
4 Ps that indicate the defilement of Eros (Love)…
The Adult bookstore out numbers McDonalds 3 to 1.
3/4 High School graduates not being a virgin compared to 20% (some decade ago)…
60% teenage girls have multiple partners before the age of 18.
Give up control, and life gets easier, J.
Sometimes I just want to be normal. Live the normal life. Move to the midwest, take care of my farm, stop using these things called computers, stop emailing, stop facebooking, stop tumbling, stop caring.
PEACE.
